Vibrant Colorways Inspired by Oregon’s Painted Hills.

In Eastern Oregon’s high desert region, a majestic cluster of vibrantly hued hills emerge from a flat grassy plain. As if painted on, layers of rich purples, reds and yellows stretch across the sculptural formations. Each layer representing a distinct prehistoric time period, the striations capture dramatic changes in the ancient landscape. Now semi-arid, this region was once tropical and over time has hosted a wide variety of animal species. Saber tooth tigers once roamed hardwood forests in what is now nearly a treeless landscape. Read on to discover how the wonders of this region inspired our 2023 colorways.

Cusp Side Table in our Clay Colorway

CLAY

If not for the beautifully constructed boardwalk on the Painted Cove Trail, you might think you have landed on Mars. The rich soil, stained 30 million years ago by iron oxides, envelops you as you walk between ancient mounds of clay. Vibrant red earth evokes the volcanic eruptions that formed this surreal landscape many millennia ago.

Cusp Side Table in our Ochre Colorway

OCHRE

Nearby in the distance the John Day Formation is a layer cake of geological wonder. Cream, wheat and gold tones are visual archives of the ancient volcanic ash carried by streams and deposited in this dynamic landscape. Celadonite mixes with yellow hues in the clay creating the earthy color that inspired our Ochre Colorway.

Cusp Side Table in our Desert Fig Colorway

DESERT FIG

Rich with fossil deposits, the Painted Hills are a time capsule of flora and fauna of bygone eras. Now a semi-arid climate, this region was once tropical. Vestiges of this humid time period have been captured in fossils imprinted with leaves of fig trees, redwoods, cinnamon and alder. Deep maroon tones are formed in part from these decomposed hardwoods.

Our reverence for nature extends far beyond color inspiration. We are dedicated to creating pieces that consider the entire life cycle of the product. Our Cusp Side table, pictured in the preceding images is made from solid Ash, a hardwood that last for generations when properly cared for. We finish the beautiful wood with a durable wood wax derived from natural oils. Highly durable, this finish is suitable for both residential and commercial settings. Comprised of powder coated steel, the base is fully recyclable, but we hope it will circulate through many homes for generations to come.
